Habistat reptile heat mats produce ultra long wavelength infra red heat and are a proven, tried and tested technology for providing heat to reptiles in many different applications.
Habistat heat mats are a carbon impregnated cloth and are made in the UK.
The infra red wavelength is invisible to the human eye and heats objects in the vivarium rather than the air.
The action of heating is very similar to the sun and it has the ability to heat anything that it strikes, including animals, but with the surrounding air temperature being much lower.
Reptiles absorb this heat in a manner very similar to basking in a natural environment. Heat mats are commonly used to provide heat for many species of snake, lizards and invertebrates.
In many rack type systems a heat mat is usually the only source of heat that is required when installed correctly and providing that the ambient heat in the room where they are kept is adequate.
Heat mats provide a warmth which the animals can sit under or on top of.
Heat mats should always be controlled by a thermostats. For the most effective control of heat mats we recommend the HabiStat Pulse Thermostat.
All heaters can be potentially hazardous if misused or incorrect installed. Do not take any risks with the lives of your animals. Install heat mats safely and in conjunction with a quality thermostat.
Important:
Never install a heat source and then leave it unattended. You must establish that your installation is correct and that the vivarium is being maintained at the desired temperature. Never expose your animals to any risk of over heating. Once installed, heating and temperature should be tested for a minimum of 48 hours prior to the introduction fo any animals. Do not risk any animals safety! If you are in any doubt, consult a professional / qualified electrician.
Cleaning your HabiStat Heat Mat
For routine cleaning, wipe the heat mat with a damp cloth but, as with any electrical appliances, disconnect the heat mat from the mains power supply first. Do not allow any moisture to penetrate the terminal block.
Safety Information
Do not use the heat mat if it appears perforated or damaged. Please note small white areas that appear to be bubbles in the laminate are not faults. This is delamination and will not affect the performance of the heat mat.
Do not pierce, fold or cut the heat mat.
Once installed the heat mat should be monitored for 48 hours before the introduction of any animals. If you have any concerns consult a qualified electrician.
